Italy : Minoan orders again

Fincantieri`s wholly owned subsidiary Sestri Cantiere Navali has won an order to build a pair of new passenger ferries for Minoan Lines of Greece.

The two ships were the subjects of an option in Minoan Line`s existing contract with Fincantieri for a pair of 2,000-passenger ferry newbuildings.

Like the first pair, the second pair of vessels will be 2,000-passenger ships, but will not be identical to their predecessors, being somewhat larger and beamier, although having a similar hullform and service speed to the first pair.

The newly ordered vessels will be capable of transporting 1,000 cars or around 150 trucks and 100 passenger vehicles.

They are due to be delivered in October 2001 and April 2002, respectively.
