Its warship time in Mazagon

Mazagon Dockyard Limited (MDL), the Indian Navy?s premier shipbuilding facility, is all set to create Indian shipbuilding history. The warship-building facility is aiming to launch two naval warships this year. While unwilling to discuss the costs involved or when the ships would finally enter into service, Rear Admiral Ravi Bhatia, ceo of MDL said, “It?s expected of us that when we make a ship of a certain class, it should take less time and less manpower. That?s being monitored successfully.”

When the two warships, P-15A and P-17, are finally commissioned, it will be a first for not just MDL, but also for the four other shipbuilding facilities in the country. “This is the first time any ship-building facility in India is trying to launch two warships in the same year. MDL is the nation?s frontline production facility for the Indian Navy so I believe we are up to the challenge,” affirmed Bhatia.

The first newbuilding, codenamed P-17, is a stealth frigate of the Godavari class while the second vessel, called P-15A, is a more advanced version of the Delhi class destroyers.
