IWSA innovation forum at SMM

It will have an extensive agenda with expert speakers and panellists in order to provoke discussion and debate about wind propulsion being key to the future of sustainable shipping.

Gavin Allwright, IWSA general secretary, said: “The Innovation Forum at SMM2016 is an opportunity for the industry to engage with the emerging trend of wind propulsion.”

He added: “We will see a wide range of credible technical solutions, debate the issues and set the tone for collaboration for the future development of the sector.”

The forum will span across all four days of the conference from 6-9 September covering a variety of wind propulsion technology providers and ship development projects showcasing new developments.

There will be presentations from the University of Tokyo, Strathclyde and Manchester, as well as the Marine Institute of the Netherlands (MARIN) Emden Leer Hochschule and CE Delft.

Nikos Nesteroulis, vice president of INSB Class, who are sponsoring the event, said: “We are delighted to be involved with IWSA and this international pool of shipping experts that are dedicated to promoting green practices and wind as a smart propulsion method.”

The Forum will be located just in front of the main IWSA booth 301, in the new Green Propulsion Hall A5.
