J-ENG TO LAUNCH SUCCESSOR TO UEC33LSII
The new engine is a third in the LSH series, following the 50LSH type and the new 42LSH type engine.
The new engine is rated for an output of 4,650kW at an engine speed of 230rpm, offering improved output compared with the UEC33LSII. In common with the predecessors in the LSH series, the engine is expected to be tuned to optimise output and engine speeds at slower operating speeds.
The ultrawide rating concept also indicates that J-ENG’s focus on improving the reliability of de-rated engine installations has borne fruit.
The new engine features the same engine stroke as the UEC33LSII to simplify the manufacturing process for licensees.
The UEC33LSH-C2 will retain the UEC33LSII’s mechanical control concept, which will also simplify production requirements, while further reductions in fuel consumption will improve the engine’s operating costs. In Tier 2 operation, the UEC33LSH-C2 is expected to achieve a fuel consumption rate of 172 g/kWh at maximum rating.
While no orders for the UEC33LSH-C2 were confirmed, J-ENG reported that it had received over 40 orders for the UEC50LSH type and 6 orders for the UEC42LSH in September. The first delivery of the 42LSH type engine was scheduled for March 2022.
