Jessop joins Ukraine company to build ships

The Kolkata-based manufacturing company, Jessop, has decided to enter the shipbuilding and ship repairing business by collaborating with the Ukraine-based Tekhkom.

Under the agreement, Tekhkom will supply the technical expertise for shipbuilding and repair, while Jessop will execute the work. The mou was signed last week by Jessop chairman P. Ruia and Tekhkom president Vladimir Gorelikov. Ruia said that in the absence of adequate ship repairing facilities in Kolkata (formerly Calcutta), most ships in the West Bengal area would go to Singapore or South Korea for basic repair jobs. “Through the partnership with Tekhkom, we hope to offer the best in the world technology for ship owners here, thereby saving valuable foreign currency for the country” said Ruia.
