Jewel delivered early

Meyer Werft has, today, handed over the 93,500 gt cruise ship ?Norwegian Jewel? to the Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) in the Dutch port of Eemshaven. The handover took place one day ahead of the contractual date. Tomorrow, the newbuilding will set sail for two mini cruises to Amsterdam and Dover with the naming ceremony taking place in New York on 14 September.

Completed in 22 months, the “Norwegian Jewel” is the lead-ship in a four-ship series which Meyer Werft is building for NCL and is not only the largest passenger vessel ever built in Germany but also the largest Panamax ship to date. She has the biggest number of cabins (1,188) and, with a maximum speed of 25.6 knots, is one of the fastest cruise ships afloat.

The ship combines high-end event gastronomy as part of the “freestyle cruising concept” by NCL with a luxurious outfitting and a state-of-the-art technical level. Almost 70 % of cabins are outside cabins, and most of them have their own balconies.
