Joint offshore propulsion package

Niigata and Scana will be marketing the package to the offshore market along and to this end have also created a project guide for the industry with typical configurations for offshore support vessels.

Kirsti Gjørvad, spokesperson for Scana Propulsion, said to The Motorship: “Both Niigata and Scana are well known companies and by combining our efforts in a common propulsion package we offer a high quality propulsion package to the market. Scana Propulsion has vast experience from deliveries to the offshore support vessels and AHTS operating in the North Sea, Brazil and USA. Niigata is especially strong in deliveries to the offshore support vessel and AHTS segment in Asia.”

Ms Gjørvad told TMS that the strategy behind the partnership is to utilise the strengths of both Niigata and Scana so that customers can benefit from strong engineering skills in high quality products, quick response time and high degree of service throughout the entire life time of a vessel.

She added that customers will have a single point of contact for the entire propulsion system including engine, gearbox, propeller, tunnel thrusters and control systems, which will save time when processing orders. Niigata and Scana will offer a propulsion package tailor-made to the specific vessel with regard to functionality and fuel efficiency.

The new joint Niigata and Scana propulsion package is based on the new Niigata 28AHX engine series (2070 – 6660 kW), combined with the wide range of Scana Propulsion propellers, gearboxes, tunnel thrusters and control systems.

Both companies have secured orders for this package before this agreement was in place, both for fishing vessels and for AHTS built in Asia. The joint partners have some interesting projects for offshore support vessels at different stages in the pipeline and some are in the final negotiation phase.

The joint propulsion package is available from the global sales organisations of both Niigata and Scana Propulsion.
