Jordan dredger for Vosta LMG
Vosta LMG received a contract for a cutter suction dredger from Arab Potash in Jordan. This new dredger is of special design as it will need to excavate hard salt deposits in extremely corrosive and harsh climate conditions. Ambient site temperatures exceeding 40 C are common.
The Arab Potash site is located 110 kilometres south of Amman and 200 kilometres north of Aqaba. The site comprises of an extensive solar evaporation pond system of an area of 131 square kilometres wherein enrichment occurs to produce valuable potash salt and the dredger is required to work mainly at a dredging depth of 2-6 meters. The 59 m long craft will also be longer than normal, as an additional 16 m pontoon will be integrated in the design which will result in increased efficiency by enabling wide sweeps to be made with the cutter.
The dredge will be handed over to Arab Potash towards the end of 2006. Vosta LMG will not only supply the complete dredger, including floating pipeline, but also take care of the assembly and commissioning on-site in Jordan in addition to the training of the crew.
