JSL by SML

Jurong Shipyard (JSL) has entered into an agreement to buy SML Shipyard (SML) for S$12 million from sister company SembCorp Logistics.

SML is an ISO9002 certified yard involved mainly in repair and conversion work on small and medium sized tonnage. It operates two graving docks for ships up to 10,000 dwt; one of 127 x 22m and one of 125 x 17m.

JSL President Tan Kwi Kin said: “Following the acquisition of SML, Jurong Shipyard will own and operate six shipyards – four in Singapore, one in Indonesia and one in China. All shipyard assets of SembCorp Industries Group will be under our management and we can offer shipowners even more cost effective services across a wide span of vessel size and tonnage. This could effectively increase our market share and customer base.”
