K Line car carrier passes ISPS code

K Line’s car carrier Indiana Highway passed the Class NK ?ship security audit? (based on the owner’s optional application) for the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS Code) as the first Japanese flagged vessel to comply with the ship security plan (SSP) approval procedure. K Line Group is actively working on the ISPS Code issues in order to adapt all of its fleet to the code by the 1st July 2004, on which date the code will become effective.

The ISPS Code was adopted at the Diplomatic Conference on Maritime Security held in London in December 2002, in order to enhance maritime security through the cooperation of ships and port facilities to detect and deter acts which threaten security in the maritime transport sector. This new code applies to cargo ships of 500 gross tonnage and upwards.
