K Line orders second 300,000 dwt bulker
Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, (K Line) has placed an order with Universal Shipbuilding Corporation for the building of another 300,000 DWT super large ore carrier to be completed in 2009. This newbuilding is being constructed for a long-term charter with ILVA S.p.A., the largest steel mill in Italy, and will be engaged in transporting iron ore from Brazil to Taranto in Italy.
The port of Taranto is noted for having the deepest draught berths in Europe that will enable the new ore carrier to fully exploit its carrying capacity. The 330 metre long ship will be the first carrier for K Line to be built as a specialized carrier for a European steel mill and the Japanese shipping company regards this as a groundbreaking contract.
