Ketchikan yard catches ferry order

US shipyard Alaska Ship & Drydock (ASD) has won an order to construct a new ferry to serve Ketchikan International Airport. The shipbuilder’s Ketchikan Shipyard will complete and deliver the ‘Ken Eichner II’ early in 2011 and it will operate in the Tongass Narrows. The State of Alaska is paying $7.4m for the newbuilding.

The new 116-foot ferry will replace the current ferry ‘Bob Ellis’ on the short run that links the Ketchikan community with the airport.
