The expanded range adds 3.8m and 4.1m propeller options to the UUC PM 405 azimuth thruster, which can deliver 86 and 91 metric tonnes of thrust.

Kongsberg said that this expansion strengthens vessel propulsion efficiency while addressing higher vessel power requirements.

“The introduction of these new sizes reflects our focus on meeting customer needs for flexibility and power in offshore operations,” said Pasi Villanen, product manager, Kongsberg Maritime.

“Permanent magnet technology allows us to deliver higher thrust in a smaller footprint, which is critical for vessels operating in challenging environments.”

Power in demand

The UUC PM range is engineered for underwater mounting and removal, reducing downtime and cutting maintenance costs through time-efficient lifecycle support.

Kongsberg Maritime combines this design with turnkey thruster change-outs, global spare storage and full maintenance project management, enabling operators to minimise planned interruptions and return vessels to service quickly with dependable vessel power.

Built-in sensors for live condition monitoring, underwater installation and permanent magnet motors deliver efficiency, reliability and serviceability.

These azimuth thruster solutions are positioned for offshore support vessels, drilling rigs and dynamic positioning applications, advancing Kongsberg Maritime’s role in advancing vessel propulsion across the offshore energy sector globally.

Kongsberg Maritime is preparing future models up to 5.5m diameter with power ratings reaching 6000 kW for larger vessels serving the offshore energy sector.
