Kormarine kornering the market

Korea is the focus of a great deal of the marine community?s attention. With such a large percentage of the world?s new ships under construction there, it is after all only natural. But the focus intensifies when it comes time for the biennial Kormarine exhibition and conference, this year running from October 30 to November 3 in the southern port city of Busan. Kormarine focuses on shipbuilding, repair and conversion, and will host debates on current industry issues such as shipbuilding subsidies and the impact on China?s shipbuilding business of its entry into the World Trade Organisation. The event is in fact part of Korea Marine Week. Reasonably described by the organisers as a “mega-sized event”, this features three separate trade focused exhibitions and conferences ? all within Busan?s Bexco exhibition and convention centre ? to cater for the merchant, naval and port sectors. The Sea-Port conference will focus on the link between ports, shipping and logistics while the Naval and Defence Forum is geared for those involved in naval defence equipment, technology and strategies. All three conferences will be held concurrently on November 1-2. The “best event for Asia” With more than 600 international companies planning to participate, Korea Marine Week 2001 may well live up to its promises “to be the event for Asia”.
