Krasnoye Sormovo scoops another five tankers

The Baku-based shipbuilder Krasnoye Sormovo, part of the MNP Group, has won another contract from Palnali Shipping Company for five IMO2 tankers of “New Armada” type of RST22 project with high “ECO Project” ecologic class.

Andrey Ivanov, MNP Group Shipbuilding Director, said that the first contract for five contracts was concluded back in February 2007. “Another five tankers were in option. Construction on the first tanker was started in May 2007 and all five are scheduled for completion during 2008. Now we signed the contract for the five optional tankers, we are going to build them by 2009,” Ivanov said.

RST22 ship project of “New Armada” type is a development of the 6,400 DWT tankers of 005RST01 project earlier projected by Marine Engineering Bureau for Palmali Group of Companies and constructed at ADA and SELAH shipyards in Tuzla (Turkey) in 2002-2006.

The new project?s tankers will have better seagoing capabilities and an increased deadweight of around 7,000 tonnes while still being able to navigate on inland waterways such as the Volga-Don canal and Volga-Baltic way. The tankers? distinguishing feature is that they are fitted with azimuthing propulsors and absence of fore-and-aft bulkhead and framework in cargo tanks. With an overall length of 139.95 m, width of 16.60 m, depth of 6.0 m and a draught of 3.60 m, these tankers will have an 8,090 m3 capacity in six cargo tankers. Powered by two 1,200 kW diesel engines, they will have a service speed of 10.5 knots.
