Large Ulstein design specialist offshore ship for Petrofac

The ship, a deepwater derrick lay vessel designated JSD 6000, has been ordered by Sharjah based Petrofac to be built at the ZPMC yard in China with scheduled completion in early 2017. It will be DP equipped and will combine J-Lay, S-Lay and heavy lift capabilities, allowing it to serve deepwater and SURF markets as well as shallow water EPCI projects.

As well as a 5,000t NOV revolving main crane the vessel will offer a combination of a 600t Remacut S-lay system via a centre firing line below main deck, and a 2,000t IHC EB J-lay system via a moonpool. This double deck configuration, claimed to be a unique Ulstein Sea of Solutions design feature, allows for a large, unobstructed deck area and below-deck pipe fabrication.

The ship will be 215.9m length oa, with 49m beam, 22.4m deep to main deck, and with 6 x 8,500kW installed power it will have DP3 capability and a 12 knot service speed. It will be LR classed with Finnish/Swedish 1C ice classification, and carry a complement of up to 399 personnel.
