Largest Vietnam cargo ships handed over to Graig
The Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (Vinashin) recently delivered a 53,000 dwt bulk carrier, the largest ever built in Vietnam, to its UK owner in northern Quang Ninh province. Named ?Florence?, the newbuilding is the first among 27 vessels built under the contract between the UK’s Graig Investment Limited and two Vinashin subsidiaries, the Quang Ninh-based Ha Long Shipyard and the Haiphong-based Nam Trieu Shipyard.
These Diamond 53 series bulkers were designed by Denmark’s Carl Bro group and built under supervision of Norwegian registration agency DNV. On the afternoon of the same day, Nam Trieu Shipyard delivered the second 53,000 dwt bulker, the NT01 Graiglas, to Graig.
According to Minister of Transport and Communication Ho Nghia Dung, the building of the two vessels is the most outstanding event of the Vietnam shipbuilding industry in 2007, strengthening Vinashin’s position in the world.
