Lisnave refits 100th AET tanker

The 107,123 tonne vessel entered the Lisnave shipyard for the second time to be fitted with a BWM system that disinfects ballast water using electrolysis technology.

Raymond McNamara, Director, Fleet Management at AET said: “This milestone event symbolises the long and stable partnership between AET and Lisnave.”

He added: “Various upcoming international regulations governing emissions and ballast water treatment will affect how AET operates its fleet and how Lisnave will refit them. International regulations governing the environmental impact of shipping will only strengthen and will be the primary challenge for the industry. We recognise and embrace our environmental esponsibility and ensure that all our vessels are clean and green.”

The first tanker refit project from AET, the 102,352 tonnes Eagle Auriga, was received by Lisnave in March 1998.

A total of 38 individual vessels make up the 100 contracts. The single largest refit contract involved the 107,123 tonne Eagle Tampa during 2004, which underwent some 800 tonnes of steel renewal to its hull.
