Navantia Shiprepairs Fene-Ferrol shipyard with five membrane LNG carriers undergoing repairs earlier this year

In 2010, NSFF undertook 12 LNG repair projects in the first quarter and has already started the 2nd quarter with two additional projects making a total of 14 so far this year with a number of LNG carriers already confirmed for the following months. The repair work on these gas carriers to date represents 56% of the total of 25 commercial vessels handled so far this year.

This figure represents a threefold increase in comparison with the percentage of LNG carriers repaired over the same period in 2009, which was four LNGs out of a total of 20 commercial vessels. NSFF started its LNG repair activity in the early 90s, with the aim of specialising in the demanding sector of liquefied natural gas carrier repairs and refits.

Based on its long track record in shipbuilding and shiprepairs, the yard had gained experience in steam propulsion at the company’s steam turbine factory. This, together with the required specialisation in LNG cargo containment systems, cryogenic equipment, and other LNG systems has led to its claimed leading position in the market for LNG maintenance, repairs and refits.
