MAN B&W monitors pressure

MAN B&W`s PMI System is a portable computerised tool which can be used for performance evaluation of the company`s two-stroke diesel engines. The system measures the cylinder pressure via a piezo-electric transducer located on the cylinder`s indicator cock.

After taking the measurements, the values are stored and the transducer can be moved to the next cylinder. Having taken a set of readings, the data is downloaded to a standard IBM compatible PC (with a math co-processor) for evaluation and storage.

Where the system differs from those offered by independent instrument manufacturers is in the use of an angle encoder which gives over 1,000 trigger points per revolution. MAN B&W says that competitor systems only have 30 to 60 true trigger points, but these are electronically sub-divided (multiplied) by a factor of 20 to 40.
