Massive newbuilding orders for Korean shipbuilders
STX Shipbuilding clinched four 74,200DWT product carriers from a Greek shipowner at a price of $38.8 million per unit with delivery of the first unit slated for September 2007.
Hyundai Mipo Dockyard has secured orders for 22 ships during January this year at a total value of $ 750 million. They consist of six 37,000DWT product carrier at the price of $ 192 million from Barclay in Greece, four 37,000DWT product carriers from Interorient, two 37,000DWT product carriers from Tsakos and two 47,000DWT product carriers from Dunya. In addition, the shipbuilder captured six 2,800TEU class container ships from E. R. Schiffahrt in Germany.
Daewoo Shipbuilding won an order for a 145,700 cbm LNG carrier from TMT company in Taiwan with a contract valued of $157 million. Ship particulars are 285.40 metres long, 43.30 metres wide and a depth of 26 metres. Delivery of the 20.250 knot newbuilding is scheduled for January 2007.
