MCA launches NAVTEX service
The Maritime Coastguard Agency has announced a new NAVTEX service for broadcasting safety information, which will initially provide inshore waters weather forecasts. These will cover 16 stretches of coastline around the UK up to 12 miles out and be broadcast twice a day. The forecasts will also give a three-day outlook and strong wind (force six or above) warnings over waters up to five miles offshore. The service operates from the three NAVTEX stations at Niton, Portpatrick and Cullercoats on 490kHz. Contact: MCA Fax: +44 23 8032 9404
