MES produces first ME engine
Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding (MES) in Japan completed the first electronically controlled slow speed diesel engine (ME-type) at its Tamano facility. This engine, which offers improved fuel economy as well as a reduction in exhaust gas emissions, is to be installed as the main propulsion engine in a Panamax type bulk carrier being built by Tsuneishi. The bulk carrier is expected to be delivered in June 2004.
