MHI licenses machinery to Imabari
The agreement will allow MHI to expand is market share in deck machinery. Imabari Shipbuilding, Japan’s largest shipbuilder, also hopes to enhance its business through the contract.
Imabari builds a variety of different ship types. The deck machinery, which will be suitable for use in a variety of ships, will be built at a ship block manufacturing plant that Imabari has established in Dalian, China.
The range includes anchor windlasses and mooring winches. Although Imabari will be producing the licensed machinery, MHI will provide hydraulic pumps and motors to drive the machines.
The production of the licensed machinery is due to start in April 2013.
