Milestone for ABS
Since 2000, the marine classification society has doubled the tonnage of its registered fleet – a key factor in the expansion has been the society’s leadership position in the new vessel order book.
More than 21% of new vessels on order at present are set for ABS class, which it says is the largest percentage of any classification society in the world.
Christopher J Wiernicki, Chairman and CEO, ABS, said: “Over the past decade, we have made strategic investments in research and technology, workforce development and training programs in order to meet the evolving needs of our clients worldwide.”
He added that the success of ABS is really a testament to the industries it serves. “It is that spirit of cooperation that allows ABS to continue to be a leader in the classification industry,” he added.
ABS carries out projects to help identify practical solutions to the many challenges being faced by the marine and offshore industry from assessing the impact of regulatory requirements to conducting analysis to improve energy efficiency.
