Millennium gremlins strike again

An electric motor operating a Mermaid pod on Celebrity Cruises` Millennium has suffered a breakage in a pole connection. Repairs were affected as soon as the rupture was discovered meaning no voyages were cancelled. However the work hasn`t fully cured the problem leaving Celebrity with an under-performing ship whose attainable service speed is cut from 24 to 20 knots. A spokesman for Alstom, the motor`s manufacturer, says it is too early to say what caused the breakage. He adds that investigations are hindered by the melting around the area where the arcing occurred. A Celebrity Cruises spokesman says a more satisfactory long-term solution is required. He explains the company, along with Alstom, is currently evaluating remedies to maximise performance and speed capacity. Both parties hope a fix can be found that won`t require loss of service time.
