More LM2500s for US Navy LCS

The LCS vessels are being supplied in two variants; the Austal version, of which up to 10 will be built over a five-year period, is powered by a CODOG system with two LM2500s and two diesels. It is a 127m long trimaran, constructed in aluminium.

According to Austal, Coronado (LCS 4) is soon due to complete sea trials. Construction of two additional LCSs is currently underway in Austal’s Mobile shipyard.

The LCS is described as an agile surface combatant that can be deployed independently to overseas littoral regions, can remain on station for an extended period either with a battle group or through a forward-basing arrangement, and is capable of underway replenishment.
