More success for Chinese yards

Shanghai Edward Shipyard in China has been awarded a contract to build two geared container ships for Tropical Shipping & Construction. The order for the feeder ship size vessels also includes an option for two more ships.

The first of the newbuildings is slated for delivery in September 2001 and the second is due to be delivered in January 2002.

The order is the first time this particular owner has selected a Chinese yard to build ships; Tropical Shipping & Construction is understood to have been swayed both by the yard?s growing technical assurance and by price.
