Motion monitor for helidecks

A deck motion monitor is available from TSS (UK) which it says enables offshore operators to comply with the Health and Safety Executive CAP 437 guidelines for the safe operation of helidecks.

CAP 437 guidelines require helideck operators to provide approaching pilots with pitch and poll reports, in degrees, about both axes of the true vertical datum as well as a single figure for the total heave motion of the helideck. The TSS unit consists of a solid state motion sensor connected to a clear, sunlight readable flat screen display. The system can measure roll and pitch to within 0.1” and heave to within five per cent of amplitude, says TSS. Systems can also be supplied to display the 10 minute maximum value of vertical velocity needed for large vessels in a long swell.
