Multi-million tanker order for DSME

The contract for America’s Scorpio Tankers will be delivered in the first half of 2016. The company has previously placed orders for four tank ships and three gas carriers.

DSME has won orders of US$12.5bn so far this year which means that the company has achieved 96% of its 2013 target.

Meanwhile, speculation that Russian oil giant Rosneft plans to acquire a 31% stake in DSME in consortium with Gazprombank and shipping company Sovkomflot has been dismissed by the South Korean media.

It says that an official has told them that the government won’t sell DSME to a foreign company to avoid any “leakage of technologies.”

The offer to buy the stake was made at the same time as a MoU was signed with the consortium to help transform a shipyard in Vladivostock.
