Nakashima Propeller continues expansion strategy, acquires majority stake in Becker Marine

The terms of the deal were not divulged. Becker Marine Systems’ press release noted that the German company’s leadership team of Mr Dirk Lehmann and Mr Henning Kuhlmann would remain in post, and paid tribute to the two companies’ long-standing commercial relationship.

Becker Marine’s press release emphasised potential synergies between the two companies’ respective product portfolios, highlighting the advantages of “providing more efficient combined systems for the aft section of vessels”.

The press release also identified opportunities for the two companies’ highly capable Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) departments to collaborate.

“We will make a significant contribution to total optimisation for propulsive performance as well as manoeuvring performance to our customers during entire lifecycle of ships.” Nakashima‘s President Takayoshi Nakashima said.

The acquisition represents a further step in the diversification of Nakashima Propeller’s range of solutions.

Nakashima has recently expanded the scope of its activities, acquiring Japanese shaft power meter supplier Shoyo Engineering Co. in September 2020.

Nakashima also acquired a 30% stake in Michigan-based Michigan Wheel Marine earlier in 2021, expanding its exposure to the North American recreational, professional and military markets. Mi-Wheel also offers propulsion packages covering shafts, sterntubes, nozzles and rudders for commercial and other markets.
