NAPA software optimises fuel

Marine software developer Onboard-Napa has added Onboard-Napa Power to its management applications. The software is designed to help the user to plan voyages so that the port of destination is reached on time at the lowest possible cost, says the company.

The application is designed for planning routes and schedules and for optimising ship operations by taking into account weather conditions, currents and the ship`s loading conditions. The system can also be used for reporting fuel consumption and costs and for compiling statistics on different voyages and can be interfaced with the other systems already installed on the bridge, says Onboard-Napa.

The system can simulate a voyage`s fuel consumption on the basis of the actual weather conditions, speed and an exact model of the vessel, says the company. The software includes such details as the shallow water effect and the drift caused by wind and sea currents and to evaluate drift and the rudder angles required, the system includes a manoeuvring model of the vessel.
