Nassco gets additional T-AKE contract

General Dynamics Nassco has reached an agreement with the US Navy to build up to five additional T-AKE-class cargo ships. The deal has a potential value of $2.5 billion if the Navy exercises all of its options. Nassco is already building ships of the T-AKE class and the shipbuilder expects the new contracts to be awarded during the next four years.

Including the nine ships previously under contract, the deal means the shipyard would build 14 ships.
