Navatek gets USN contract
Honolulu-based naval architect Navatek has landed a $2 million contract from the US Navy to design a prototype ship to deliver heavy equipment onto beaches. Navatek’s T-Craft design uses an amphibious transporter that can be launched from a specially designed ship. If its initial design is accepted by the Navy, Navatek would move into a $10 million contract to produce and test its design. The company hopes the contract will eventually be worth a total of $160 million
The project is part of a Navy effort to be able to rapidly move tanks, equipment and supporting materials from ships onto beaches during military and humanitarian relief operations.
