New approvals for high-capacity BWTS

NEI says that this is the fifth type approval certificate, adding to certificates previously received from Panama, Malta, Marshall Islands and Liberia. The Dutch approval was issued following shipboard installation and commissioning of high-capacity VOS systems onboard large bulk carriers and tanker vessels. The first installation was on one of six 118,000dwt mini-cape bulkers built at Dayang shipyard for Hartmann-Reederie, outfitted with a VOS 4,400 m³/h BWTS. The second was one of four VLCCs built at HSHI for Samco Shipholding, outfitted with a VOS 6,350 m³/h BWTS. These are claimed to be the highest capacity BWT systems installed and operating to date. Based upon this milestone, Marshall Islands and Liberia separately and independently reviewed the high-capacity treatment results of the VOS BWTS and have subsequently issued upgraded type approval certificates – both with a TRC of 6,500m³/h – in August 2011 and September 2011, respectively.
