New boxship for E.R. Schiffahrt
The Hamburg shipping company E.R. Schiffahrt recently commissioned its 60th ship, with the 8,200TEU ?E.R. Tianan?. This Post-Panamax ship is one of the largest in the world, with length overall 335 metres, beam 42.8 metres and draught 14.5 metres.
The main engine, an MAN B&W with twelve cylinders and an output of nearly 70,000 kW, gives a speed of 25 knots. This ship is the first of a nine-ship series ordered from the Korean shipyard Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries. All nine vessels have been chartered to leading line shipping companies on long-term contracts – six to the French shipping line CMA CGM and three to Cosco Container Lines – including the ?E.R. Tianan?, which has been chartered for a ten year period. It is now entering into service as the ?Cosco China?, in service between Europe and Asia.
