New company launches economical bulk carrier series
Foreship is the largest sharehoilder in the new company, known as Foreship BlueTech Ltd, which is headed by Petri Hakulinen, former senior vice-president of business development at Foreship. BlueTech specialises in efficient and eco-friendly cargo ship standard designs, and the roles of engineering manager and project manager will be taken by Matti Huhtala and Pekka Jauhiainen respectively, both formerly with Foreship.
Foreship BlueTech’s new efficient bulk carrier series is based on the common structural rules, and will be called the Sea Dragon. It is based on optimised hydrodynamics, using RANS-CFD, and latest engine technology. Daily fuel consumption is expected to be 30% below average current designs. The series currently includes SD25, SD35, SD41, SD42, SD56 and SD64 versions. As an example, the SD41 is claimed to meet the EEDI Phase 3 (from January 2025 onwards) requirements with a claimed daily consumption of 18.5t at 14 knots service speed.
