New electric propulsion drive from ABB
The liquid-cooled system features a power range from 710-5,700kW at 690V AC. A compact dust-proof cabinet minimises the need for air conditioning in the installation area, while the upper section of the cabinet is kept closed during installation to stop dust entering the unit. The lower part of the cabinet holds a separate cabling entry, with vibration dampers accessible from outside the cabinet.
ABB said that lifecycle management and preventive maintenance were key issues in the design of NektonDrive. The cabinet offers accessibility at the front and no service space on the side or back is necessary. A reduced number of spare parts and capabilities for remote diagnostics aim to secure minimum downtime and easy access to spares throughout the vessel’s lifetime.
The NektonDrive’s modular design means it can be adapted to almost any customer specific requirements, the company said.
