New icebreaker launched
A new diesel-electric icebreaker, ?Sankt-Peterburg? has been launched at the Baltic Shipyard in Russia. The construction is carried out under the survey of Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS). This multipurpose icebreaker is designed for piloting of large ships in the Gulf of Finland, towing of ships and floating facilities in ice conditions or open water, fire-fighting on ships and floating facilities, rescue and salvage operations, deck cargo delivery. The newbuilding is fitted with azimuthing thrusters in addition to two FP four-bladed propellers with the diameter of 4.5 m and output capacity of 16 MW.
The icebreaker has been assigned one of the highest ice category marks ? Icebreaker 6.
