New island ferry for French West Coast
The ferry is 45m long, 9.9m beam and 4.2m depth at main deck. It carries up to 365 passengers and eight crew. With an installed power of 2 x 1,650kW it travels at 15 knots. The hull is constructed of steel, with an aluminium superstructure.
The yard says the contract has provided work for 70 personnel over a 12-month period, including around 1,500 man hours of work experience scheme for persons experiencing social difficulties. The ship was designed according to specifications for sustainable operations on its daily services to the Finistère Islands in the Iroise Sea.
Pascal Piriou, chairman and CEO of Piriou Group, states: “Over and above the favourable effect on our order book, this contract was important for us because we wish to increase our presence in the segment of passenger ships based on complex technical platforms that meet very demanding operating conditions, combined with optimal conditions of comfort for passengers. In this sense, the Iroise Sea is a perfect challenge which allows us to exploit our know-how to the maximum. “
