New portable BWT systems

CSS said it has identified that there are many vessels which only require ballasting a few times per year and this is a niche it is looking to fill. For these vessels, the cost of retrofitting a BWT system is simply not cost effective.

“Containerised, portable BWT systems provide owners with a low cost solution to achieving compliance,” said Chris McMenemy, general manager, CSS. “Our containerised systems provide shipowners with the option of purchasing one system that they can share between their fleet, rather than having to purchase and retrofit one system per vessel.”

He pointed out that so far the level of interest for the systems is high. CSS actually deals with many barge and submersible vessel owners, through its other Malin Group companies in the heavy lift sectors.

“We expect the interest to continue to increase as IMO ratification draws closer. Of course the USCG regulations come into force this year so that will be a real driver behind it as well,” Mr McMenemy told The Motorship.

The company has a number of treatment technology options available for the containerised systems and each one will be tailored to specific vessel flow rate and capacity requirements.

By working closely with key BWT system manufacturers, CSS can provide the containerised systems on a variety of hire or purchase options. They can also be backed by fully trained service teams.
