New reefers for Eimskip

Eimskip, the Icelandic shipping company, has entered into shipbuilding contracts for the construction of two highly sophisticated reefer vessels for a total purchase price of $39.6 million, with an option of ordering four more. This order is part of Eimskip?s and its Norwegian subsidiary, CTG, plans to enhance its temperature-controlled cargo services in the North-Atlantic.

The company will shortly receive two similar new reefer vessels that were ordered last year from a Norwegian shipbuilder. The latest newbuildings will also be built in Norway by Mylkebust Verft, part of Kleven Maritime, as yard numbers 43 and 44 and deliveries are scheduled for January 2007 and April 2007. The ships will be owned by Eimskip and operated by its subsidiary, CTG.

The new 2,500 DWT vessels are designed by Multi Maritime in close cooperation with the shipowners and charterer and will be 80m long, 16m wide and have a service speed of 16 knots. They will have substantial loading and discharging capacity of about 200 tonnes per hour and will be able to carry 1,800 pallets and 14 45ft containers on deck. The vessels will have side ports enabling pallets to be driven directly onboard.
