New service for ballast treatment retrofit

RWO, which claims to be one of the first ballast water treatment system manufacturers, says it has recently acquired its own high-speed 360° 3D scanner, which enables RWO to quickly create a detailed three-dimensional image of a ship’s engine room, and thus depict the most advantageous options for installing the CleanBallast system. The image gives the shipowner and the shipyard an exact digital reproduction of the conditions and thus saves costs and effort during the design and engineering phases.

A further benefit claimed for the service is the measurement, accurate to within 1mm, of clearances from the scanned image. According to RWO, this means that time-consuming survey work, which normally is necessary for the assessment of the space conditions on board a ship is no longer required.

RWO claims more than 35 years’ experience in the maritime water and wastewater treatment market and has more than 50 CleanBallast ballast water treatment systems in its order book. As at the end of December 2011 more than 30 CleanBallast plants have been successfully started up. The sea trials took place in China where, among other things, the plants were supplied with water from the River Yangtze, said to be one of the most difficult bodies of ballast water.
