New yard wins heavy lift carrier

South Korea’s newly-established shipbuilder Shin An Heavy Industries has ended its orders drought and received a new contract for a heavy lift vessel from compatriot Hanjin Corporation. The 12,300 dwt newbuilding is scheduled to be delivered in the second half of 2010.

The two companies also agreed to cooperate in logistics business and ship management. Shin An had completed and delivered its first ship, the 15,700 dwt ‘Mega Trust’, a mega-block carrier, in December last year. It is now working on its second vessel, a 34,000-dwt bulk carrier, for delivery next month.
