Newbuilding orders round-up

Hyundai Samho Shipyard in South Korea secured an order for two 159,000DWT tankers from a ship owner in Bermuda. The pair will be delivered during 2007 at a total cost of $118 million.

Hyundai Mipo Dockyard won an order for a 47,000DWT ice class 1A product carrier from OMI Corporation. This newbuilding is scheduled to be delivered in August 2005 and is the first of this size and design ordered by OMI which already has six 37,000 dwt ice class 1A vessels on order at the yard. With delivery slated ahead of the 2005-2006 winter, OMI is confident this vessel will be in great demand.

Siba Ships based in Italy ordered an 82,800DWT bulk carrier from Tsuneishi Corporation in Japan for delivery during the third quarter of 2006. The main propulsion plant will be supplied by B&W and will have a power output of 11,000 kW. This will be the first of its type in Siba Ships? fleet but the company, founded in 2002, plans to increase its presence in this sector.

K Line of Japan orders two LR2 105,000DWT product carrier which will be on a long-term charter from Japanese shipowners. Both vessels will be built by Sumitomo Heavy Industries with delivery of the first one slated for fourth quarter in 2006 with the second following in second quarter 2007.
