NGV aims to double output

NGV Tech Sdn Bhd, a Malaysian shipbuilder specialising in aluminium-hulled fast patrol boats, plans to double its present production capacity to 20 units from its present 10 to 12 units.

Managing director Jamalolail Mohd Yatim said the company has submitted its proposal to acquire an additional 4.86ha, and the local authorities are looking into the matter. “We hope everything will be finalised by the end of March and we will progress on the site development in phases,” he said. One of the main issues to resolve is the depth of water at the shipyard located some 15km from Port Klang. “We have requested the authorities to deepen the depth of Sg Langat by another 4 metres to at least eight metres,” said Jamalolail.

The deepening of Sg Langat would not only allow NGV to expand its capability to build bigger commercial carriers or craft up to 40m but also facilitate more shipbuilding and repairing industry to grow along the river, he added. “We are no longer a domestic player and this is clearly reflected in our order book valued at RM1.03 billion,” said Jamalolail.

The firm recently received a contract worth RM780 million from Bakri Navigation Co.

Under the contract, NGV Tech will be supplying 20 ships comprising security boats, crew boats, utility boats, tug and anchor handling tugs.
