NGV wins export orders

The Malaysian shipbuilder NGV Tech Sdn Bhd is finalising contracts worth $31.6 million to build two fast aluminium boats for an Indonesian client and three logistics (steel hull and aluminium superstructure) vessels for a Middle East government.

The company, whose expertise is in aluminium vessels, is currently completing three high-speed patrol vessels for the Yemeni Coast Guard Authority. These ships are being built at NGV?s shipyard in Lumut.

It recently delivered two tugboats to the Ports and Marine Affairs of Hodeidah Port Authority in Yemen and an offshore crew boat to Ajang Shipping of Miri, Sarawak.

NGV Tech managing director, Jamalolail Mohd Yatim, said in a statement, “It was hard work all along, convincing the Yemeni authority that a local Malaysian company can build such ships within the required timeframe, its quality and standards, matching those of Yemeni?s traditional shipbuilders, who are mainly from Europe.”

Jamalolail said NGV Tech invested in a new shipyard in Sijangkang, Klang, following the recent overwhelming orders for boats servicing the oil and gas industry and fast patrol vessels from Middle East countries such as Yemen, Iraq, Kuwait and Egypt.

The new shipyard includes a new state-of-the-art facility for building bullet-proof composite materials for fast boats. With the new shipyard facility and its wide experience in shipbuilding, NGV Tech will be focusing on shipbuilding jobs from overseas.

NGV has also won a tender to build a 40m aid to navigation tender vessel from the Malaysian Marine Department and also another six units of 34m high-speed crew boats for an offshore crew boat operator, which is a joint venture between PT Swasti Bahari Utama, Indonesia, and Sterlink Investments Pte Ltd, Singapore.
