NYK introduces latest green boxship
Despite recent adverse trading conditions, NYK continues its investment of 70 billion yen ($866 million) over six years in the development of innovative environmental technology.
The NYK Altair incorporates innovative developments in engine design and is fitted with a DU-Wartsila 12RT FLEX 96C propulsion engine. The environmental advantages of this engine are smokeless operation at all running speeds, lower fuel consumption, reduced NOx emissions and high-efficiency waste heat recovery.
Built by IHI Shipyard in Japan, the 332.20m long, 45.20m wide vessel has a deadweight of 106,000 tonnes and a 10,000 TEU capacity. The 68,644kW propulsion plant delivers a maximum speed of 24.5 knots.
The newbuilding follows NYK’s introduction of the award-winning
Auriga Leader
and the unveiling of the company’s concept ship, NYK Super Eco Ship 2030.
