Octopus-Onboard two heavy lift vessels

The system, to be installed on semi-submersible heavy lift vessels Sun Rise and Sun Shine will support route planning, and optimisation of speed, heading and fuel consumption. The installation will include motion monitoring and forecasting in order to increase workability and safety during heavy lift transport projects. It will feature a motion monitor system based on three accelerometers, so that multiple critical locations, for instance the cargo, can be measured and displayed on the bridge.

Using the system, it will be possible to remotely download and display all measured motions and accelerations on a secure web-portal. The data can be used for shore-based evaluation, and could be made available to cargo owners so update them on the actual status and location of their cargo.

Amarcon says that more than 80% of semi-submersible heavy lift vessels use the Octopus suite.
