Oil company offers football prizes to customers and industry members

To tie in with Castrol?s sponsorship of the forthcoming football World Cup, Castrol Marine has launched a competition offering those involved in marine matters a chance to win tickets to the matches.

The company web site carries an online fantasy-football style game, known as performance manager. Accessed via the football tab on www.castrol.com/marine, the challenge is open to anyone in the marine industry to select a team, with the winning performance landing VIP tickets to next year?s FIFA World Cup finals in South Africa. Within any particular vessel or office, participants can create their own mini-leagues to compete against colleagues.

Paul Lowther, global marketing communications manager for Marine lubricants, explained: “Castrol is combining business and football, as football is something that everyone talks about, whatever their job. Performance manager is all about using analysis and insight to perform at the highest level, consistently and reliably – something that translates perfectly into our business environment and reflects the Castrol approach.”

Castrol Marine says that its customers have an even better chance of winning, as special sector mini leagues have been set up, with extra tickets up available for top performers. Customers can speak to their account manager for details.

Entries to Performance Manager are free, and because of the high demand the deadline for registration has been extended to 5 December 2009, to be in with a chance of winning tickets.

To play the game, contestants act as manager, and pick a team of 11 footballers, chosen from a list of players from English premiership sides. These players score points based on their performance during the 2009/10 English Premier League football season.

The main prize is a package including two tickets to a world cup match in South Africa, with travel and accommodation provided. Similar prize packages are offered to the top three mini-league performers, while other prizes of Castrol merchandise are additionally on offer.
